Biography

Mary Alexander is a native of Camden, South Carolina. She graduated in 1979 from the University of Kentucky with a degree in arts administration. After living for a time in Savannah, Ga., Mary and her family moved to their present home in Harrodsburg, KY where she has continued to pursue her interest in the arts. She has taken courses in portrait and landscape painting at the Art Academy of Cincinnati as well as drawing and photography classes at the University of Kentucky. She has worked primarily with textile art since 1998 and was juried into the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program in 2004. In 2006, she was the recipient of a Professional Development Grant from the Kentucky Arts Council to attend a workshop with internationally known quilters, Georgia Bonesteel and Charlotte Warr Andersen. Mary’s quilt,”Wild Goose Island in Glacier National Park” was an Honorable Mention in the Quilt University Virtual Art Show. Her quilt “Is That A Shark?; Davis and Libby at the Beach” was exhibited at the Houston International Quilt Festival in 2005 as part of the special exhibit, “Without Boundaries.” Mary is a member of The Gathering Artists, the Wilderness Trace Art League, the Studio Art Quilters Association, and the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program.
